Tokyo is a city of contrasts, from the ultra-modern business districts to the stillness of the parks. There are many districts, more properly called “special wards,” made up of the 23 municipalities that were formed together into what we now call Tokyo.

Tokyo has a lot going on, from Tokyo Disneyland to some really freaky things, and that’s just the mundane. There are subcultures galore, a commuter culture you wouldn’t believe, and cat cafés. There are nerds running the range from the mere enthusiast all the way to the no-life otaku1.
1 Unlike the usage in America, “otaku” implies the worst type of fan in Japan. It is considered insulting, though as more self-identify as such it’s becoming less of an insult.
